There are a lot of issues when compiling the 2.1.1 release with recent
versions of gcc. These will all be resolved in the upcoming 2.2 release later
this month.

If you are in a hurry, send me email and I will send you the access info for
the alpha release site; the current alpha compiles under gcc 3.4.2 and the
2.2 release will be compiled with gcc 4.0.1, at least on linux.
